Celebrating Our May 2026 GEM Award Recipients!
The Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Award honors staff members who exceed expectations not because they have to, but because they genuinely care about the people they serve, the teams they work with, and the mission they carry forward every day. This quarter, we are proud to recognize eight extraordinary recipients.
Natalie Barback, Recruitment Specialist, Human Resources
Natalie is the go-to person for HR questions across the organization, and what sets her apart isn't just her knowledge; it's her commitment to finding answers when she doesn't have them. She goes beyond her job description without hesitation, and her positive, outgoing spirit lifts everyone around her. You can always hear her cheering on new staff at the end of their orientations. A true team player in every sense.
Denis Barolli, Program Coordinator, Residential
Denis has built a team culture rooted in trust, transparency, and open communication. He doesn't just manage; he mentors. He doesn't just solve problems; he proactively prevents them. From improving team documentation practices to stepping in during challenging moments, Denis leads by example and ensures everyone has the tools and guidance they need to succeed.
Shirley-Ann Charles, Direct Support Professional, 790 Riverside
Shirley-Ann's commitment to the individuals she serves doesn't clock out, even when she does. She always steps up without being asked. From monitoring the residence, leading Life Plan meetings, coordinating with families, to keeping everything running smoothly. She even follows up on medical care for others while out sick herself. Shirley is an invaluable asset to 790 Riverside.
Sharin Smith, Manager, Residential
When her cluster found itself without an Assistant Manager, Sharin volunteered to take on additional responsibilities. She even extended her support to other teams outside her caseload. Reliable, communicative, and selflessly dedicated, Sharin goes above and beyond to ensure the people we support and their families are always cared for.
Paul Sterr, DSP/Cook, 860 East 38th Street ICF
Paul has become a cornerstone of the 860 East 38th Street ICF. The people he supports light up when he walks in the room. He never declines a task, approaches everything with a smile, and on a snowy day off, he showed up anyway just to help clear the premises. Paul is quiet in his dedication and never seeks recognition. There is simply no better example of what the GEM Award stands for.
Congratulations to All!
To Natalie, Denis, Shirley-Ann, Oluchi, Namutoni, Enid, Sharin, and Paul: thank you for showing up, going further, and making Neuspark a better place for everyone we serve. You are the heart of this mission.
