On a beautiful fall morning at Midland Beach in Staten Island, the residents of NeuSpark PDS came together for a cause that hits close to home — the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. This year’s walk carried a deeply personal meaning for our community, as we proudly walked in honor of Kim, one of our residents, and her inspiring journey of strength, healing, and hope.
Kim, a beloved member of the NeuSpark PDS community, faced her breast cancer diagnosis with courage and determination. With the support of family, friends, and the NeuSpark PDS team — including her sister and board member Jill Woodford-Taylor — Kim recently received wonderful news: she is in remission and has officially been given the all-clear by her doctors.
Adding even more significance to this year’s event, Darvena Idlet, Kim’s roommate who also faced breast cancer, walked beside her, celebrating both of their paths toward recovery and resilience. Together, they embodied the spirit of what Breast Cancer Awareness Month is all about — healing, hope, and the shared strength of community.
Our residents walked not just in remembrance or awareness, but in celebration — of survival, of sisterhood, and of the power of coming together.
At NeuSpark PDS, we believe that every journey is unique and that support, compassion, and connection make all the difference. This walk was more than a community event; it was a moment to honor those who have fought, those who continue to fight, and the hope for a future free of breast cancer.
