Program Development Services (PDS) Changes Name to NeuSpark Person Directed Services (NeuSpark PDS)

Updated Name Reflects Four Decade Legacy while Embracing Neurodiversity and Innovation in Person-Centered Care Across New York City.

Brooklyn, NY — After more than 40 years of championing people with disabilities, Program Development Services (PDS) has rebranded as NeuSpark Person Directed Services (NeuSpark PDS), a name that reflects its focus on neurodiversity and drive for innovation in person-centered care.

“This name change marks an exciting new chapter for our organization,” said Executive Director Elizabeth Lynam. “While our mission remains the same—to ensure people with disabilities are treated with dignity and have the opportunity to reach their full potential—our new name, NeuSpark PDS, reflects our commitment to unlocking that potential and supporting loved ones in living their best lives.”

Founded in 1984 by Patricia Harrison and Richard Murray, the organization began as a consulting agency helping others deliver individualized, high-quality care for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. When the founders developed homes to provide compassionate care for their siblings in their own neighborhoods, it set the foundation for NeuSpark’s person-centered approach.

The new name was carefully chosen to reflect core organizational values:
‘Neu’ represents ‘neurodiversity,’ encompassing the idea that differences in how people think, learn, and perceive the world are not deficits or disabilities, but rather a form of human diversity that includes us all.
‘Spark’ evokes both innovation and the power to create change. It also reflects the organization’s roots in family- sized advocacy while underscoring the importance of staying nimble in developing new solutions.
‘PDS’ pays homage to the organization’s long history while shifting from ‘Program’ to ‘Person’ to emphasize individually tailored, person-directed supports and services.

“We believe everyone deserves to live in the light—not the margins—and to be seen, heard, and fully included in the community we all share,” said Lynam.

The name transformation was guided by a comprehensive process shaped by input from board members, staff, and the people served, in partnership with Lúgh Studio. The transition to NeuSpark PDS will roll out with updated branding across the website, social media, and community outreach materials, culminating in a grand opening event at Industry City.

NeuSpark PDS serves hundreds of people and their families across Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Manhattan through 24-hour residences, supported apartments, and day and community habilitation programs.
